And for those coming from Queensland or the North Coast, you will just love rugging up, drinking red wine and sitting by the fire.

The Region

  • Ben Lomond is 45 minutes north of Armidale and 20 minutes north of Guyra in the New England Region of NSW.

A 7 hour drive from Sydney and 5 hour drive from Brisbane.

Flights depart Sydney > Armidale daily.

  • At 1364 metres above sea level, the air is crisp and we experience every season at its best. Our region is known for its cold winters, often plummeting below 0 degrees, so be sure to pack your woollies.

If you are visiting in Summer, we experience gorgeous sunny days, usually around mid-20’s, occasionally climbing into the early-30’s, very pleasant indeed!

THINGS TO DO

The Station Master’s is an easy drive to the surrounding regional centres of Guyra, Armidale, Inverell and Glen Innes.

If you are the outdoorsy adventurous type we would suggest you try one of New Englands beautiful National Park walks.

We have mountain bikes for you to explore the Ben Lomond Village and surrounds. There is the old Railway Station, which in its day was part of the Great Northern Line and was an integral link in transporting passengers, goods and troops to the North in Wartimes.

Guyra is the home to one of Australia’s largest and most advanced glasshouse facilities with over 40 hectares (25 footy fields) of tomatoes growing. A unique sight and one worth seeing.

THE VILLAGE

The Ben Lomond Village itself is a peaceful haven, part of Glen Innes Highlands, Ben Lomond is surrounded by prime agricultural land that produces some of the best beef cattle and lambs in Australia.

At 1,364 metres above sea level the air is crisp, the views spectacular and we experience four distinct seasons with beautiful sunsets. So pack a picnic and take yourselves to the top of a nearby hill late in the afternoon to experience the stunning scenery.

Wander around the village, and chat to locals, Ben Lomond has a beautifully connected community. There are three church grounds with historic cemeteries, a War Memorial Hall, 1905, and the longest hand cut railway cutting in Australia is a short drive from our place, it was an incredible feat of labour at the time.

TROUT FISHING

Trout fishing is also a favourite pastime in the New England Region, with the season running from the October Long Weekend until the June long weekend. There are plenty of trout streams in the area as well as Copeton and Malpas Dam, where you’ll find Murray Cod, Golden Perch and Bass.

Dutton Trout Hatchery near Ebor is also a favourite, it is one of only two facilities in NSW for breeding and rearing cold water sport fish. They run guided tours, hand feed the trout and fishing clinics. If you intent to fly fish whilst here you will need a licence.

Licensing & Regulations around Trout fishing can be found here.

NATURE & OUTDOOR ACTIVITES

Take a bike ride along a country road and enjoy the serenity of cattle grazing as the sun sets over the hills.
